Albert Einstein founded the IRC in 1933 and since then this organization has been “one of the first to respond, one of the last to leave”. The IRC continues as a leader in humanitarian relief. They mobilize quickly, bringing sustained support to regions torn apart by violence and deprivation. The San Diego IRC has a program at Crawford High School that works with refugees from East Africa and Southeast Asia to provide a fresh start in the U.S.

Junior Achievement is leading a passionate movement around the world to better the quality of life everywhere. Their mission is to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy. They are committed to ensuring students understand and value free enterprise, business, and economics.
To accomplish this goal, Junior Achievement uses hands-on experiences to help students understand the economics of life. In partnership with businesses and educators, they bring the real world to students.

Home to more than 4,000 rare and endangered animals representing more than 800 species and subspecies, the San Diego Zoo is a world famous conservation organization where visitors view exotic animals in habitat environments. Zoo guests may view rare giant pandas, cuddly looking koalas, reptiles of various shapes and sizes and many more interesting species.

Challenge U leads powerful team retreats, corporate ropes course events, and leadership development programs. They work with clients using a hands-on format to build teamwork and enhance decision-making skills. They combine classroom learning with real time simulations, and high impact experiences. Challenge U equips team members and leaders with the tools and skills necessary for success. Students should wear comfortable clothing and shoes – no open shoes or sandals. You will be outside all day.

REALITY CHANGERS: Agentes de Cambio. This program works in the barrio (a Spanish speaking neighborhood to help Hispanic students live by the following motto: “We are agents of POSITIVE change in the world that surrounds us. We get good grades because we are going to college. We are polite, courageous, and above all, honest. If we are not, please tell us so and we will correct our behavior the first time that we are told. We seek to always inspire others with our words because we desire to be positive influences at all times. We do not pull people down, but instead, we lift each other up.”

10:00AM USS Midway Aircraft Carrier Museum

This is the longest-serving aircraft carrier in U.S. Navy history--a 47 year odyssey that spanned the end of WWII and Operation Desert Storm in 1991. The Museum has 40 exhibits, 21 restored aircraft, and story-telling docents, many of them Midway veterans.

The museum has one of the world's finest collections of historic ships, including the world's oldest active ship Star of India, the 1898 steam ferry Berkeley, the HMS Surprise (used in the movie Master and Commander) and a B-39 Soviet attack submarine.
